Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) to Treat Circles Under Your Eyes

10th Feb, 2016

The face tends to develop visible signs of aging earlier than any other part of the body, with the area around the eyes being particularly vulnerable to such signs. Indeed, many people begin to develop circles under their eyes when they are still in their twenties, which can make them look years older than they really are. It truly isn’t fair. However, Dr. Ronald J. Caniglia offers people who are suffering from under eye circles a highly effective weapon in the fight against premature signs of aging in blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, at his Scottsdale plastic surgery practice.

Patients emerge from the procedure with fresher, more vibrant skin that gives them a more youthful and vital overall appearance. Dr. Caniglia produces consistently natural-looking results for his blepharoplasty patients. His patients look as though they have come back from a long vacation, relaxed and free from stress, without any of the tell-tale signs of having undergone surgery.

Are you a good candidate for lower eyelid surgery? To find out for yourself, schedule your blepharoplasty consultation with Dr. Caniglia at his Scottsdale, Arizona plastic surgery practice today.

How is blepharoplasty performed?

As with any other plastic surgery procedure available at Caniglia Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Caniglia personalizes blepharoplasty to meet the unique needs and goals of the individual patient. The procedure can be performed on the lower eyelids, the upper eyelids, or both. For patients who are only concerned with dark circles under their eyes, lower eyelid surgery can be performed on its own.

The procedure begins with Dr. Caniglia making tiny incisions either on the inside of the lower eyelids or in the natural crease of the lower eyelids, through which he removes excess fat. He may redistribute the remaining fat to improve the appearance of areas of the under-eye area that appear hollow, thereby addressing the “circles” that had formed. After a suitable cosmetic transformation has been achieved, Dr. Caniglia sutures the incisions closed, and the blepharoplasty is complete. Laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid skin may be suggested instead of excising skin if there are significant wrinkles, as laser resurfacing will both tighten the lower eyelid skin and soften wrinkles.

Lower eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that it generally does not require an overnight hospital stay. Indeed, most patients are able to return to their normal routines immediately after surgery. Any post-surgical discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers. After a couple of weeks, full results should become apparent.

While lower eyelid surgery can be performed on its own, many patients elect to combine the procedure with other cosmetic treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM®,Restylane, facial liposuction, lip advancement, or laser skin resurfacing. Whatever your cosmetic goals, Dr. Caniglia will devise a treatment plan that is unique to you.
