Understanding the Forehead Lift in Phoenix and Scottsdale

For many individuals, growing older means loose, saggy skin with unsightly wrinkles around the eyes, nose, and mouth. Aging is an inevitable stage of life, but it doesn’t mean you have to bow down gracefully to the unavoidable signs of the process. Some individuals even show signs of aging early in life with laugh lines and frown lines adorning their face as young as their twenties. Regardless of age, action can be taken to restore the youthful appearance you long to have. One very common procedure is the forehead lift.

What is a forehead lift?

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift or browplasty, is a surgical procedure to restore the eyebrows and forehead to a more youthful and alert position while reducing the appearance of wrinkles in the tissue. The procedure is performed to reduce or eliminating sagging in the brow area that often accompanies the natural aging process, sometimes forming prematurely. This loose skin can even create a tired, droopy appearance, sometimes making individuals look angry or upset.

Am I a good candidate for a forehead lift?

If you experience loose or sagging skin in the forehead and brow area and are of good overall health, you may be a good candidate for a forehead lift in Scottsdale. Ideal candidates will be nonsmokers who have an understanding of expectations. Dr. Ronald Caniglia will be able to discuss your options during a consultation.

What is the procedure like?

A forehead lift is a common outpatient procedure that Dr. Caniglia has performed on numerous occasions within his more than 25 years of experience. The procedure starts with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, which is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Multiple approaches are available during a forehead lift, the best of which will be determined by Dr. Caniglia for your specific procedure.

The most common procedure involves a series of small incisions made within the hairline. With the use of an endoscope, the skin is pulled back from the cranial structure and the muscles and lining are released, with the use of a precision laser, from the skin to allow the brow to raise. The brow is then skillfully fixated internally with dissolvable sutures and the main incisions are closed. A small gauze wrap is placed before the patient is moved to the recovery room.

What is the recovery process?

With standard endoscopic surgery, the recovery process is quick and easy. Patients are able to return home on the same day as surgery, returning the next day only to have the gauze dressing removed. Patients of Dr. Caniglia’s are even able to wash their hair the day after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work within seven days, but exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for two weeks.

A forehead lift may be accompanied by other procedures such as a facelift or blepharoplasty to promote an overall youthful appearance.
