Restylane® Procedure

As the skin ages, hyaluronic acid – the natural substance in the body that gives the skin its firm texture and volume – becomes depleted, and the result is the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Both Restylane® are made of hyaluronic acid, and when injected into problem areas, correct facial lines and folds, most commonly around the mouth. The Restylane® procedures last approximately 15 minutes and are administered as follows:

• Dr. Caniglia examines the face and determines where injections are needed and how much of the substance is required.
• Topical anesthetic or cold packs may be applied if the patient wishes for optimal comfort, although this is not necessary.
• Using a tiny needle, the substance is injected directly into wrinkles underneath the surface layer of skin.
• No downtime or recovery time is necessary and patients can return to work and normal activities immediately following the procedure.

Candidates for Restylane® Injections

The best way to determine whether you are a candidate for Restylane® injections, and to learn which is best for your needs, is to meet with Dr. Caniglia for a consultation. The ideal candidate includes men or women in relatively good physical and mental health, who have realistic expectations of the treatment.

Patients are generally between the ages of 30 and 50, although anyone over the age of 18 may be a potential candidate. Good candidates generally wish to:

• Smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face, particularly the nasolabial folds, or “smile lines” around the mouth.
• Add volume to the lips.
• Alter the contours of the face.
• Soften the appearance of scars.

Risks of Restylane® Injections
