The nose is the center of the face. If it is disproportionate or misshapen, then the overall appearance of the face will be significantly affected. It’s generally not possible to change the appearance of the nose very much using makeup.
This is why rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures. This surgery involves reshaping the cartilage that forms the nose, creating a new nasal appearance. Although it can produce dramatic results, not everyone is willing or able to commit to having surgery. This is why some of Dr. Caniglia’s patients ask about nonsurgical rhinoplasty options.
If you’re bothered by the appearance of your nose, but you don’t want to have a surgical procedure, is there anything that you can do? Will a nonsurgical rhinoplasty be effective? How would this work?
Reshaping the nose using dermal fillers
A recent study looked at 5000 patients who received nonsurgical rhinoplasty. The procedure involved reshaping the nose using hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers. On average, it took just twelve minutes to perform nonsurgical rhinoplasty.
The results were impressive. More than 99.5% of the patients were satisfied with their results. The complication rate was also extremely low, with no serious and permanent side effects occurring in this study. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty can be considered a very safe and effective procedure for reshaping the nose.
What types of concerns can be addressed through nonsurgical rhinoplasty?
In the study described above, the most common reason for seeking the procedure was a dorsal hump. This is when the bump near the top of the nose is too large and can be corrected by injected filler into surrounding areas in order to smooth the appearance of the nose. The procedure was also effective for issues like a drooping or bulbous nasal tip, and asymmetry of the nasal appearance.
Although this can be a versatile procedure, it’s important to recognize its limitations. A nonsurgical rhinoplasty cannot make the nose smaller. If your nose is disproportionately large, then only a surgical rhinoplasty will be able to address this issue. However, if you have concerns about the shape of the nose, then you might consider nonsurgical rhinoplasty.
The results of an injection with hyaluronic acid based fillers can be expected to last about 12 months. If you want to maintain your results, then the treatment will need to be repeated. Many of the patients in the study returned at 12 to 18 months in order to have repeat injections. Some patients do find that their results last somewhat longer than 12 months, but a nonsurgical rhinoplasty will not produce permanent results.
