Scottsdale lip augmentation
There are many people who are looking for a way to add volume to the lips. Some have lips that are genetically thinner, while others have found themselves losing volume in the lips as they age. To achieve a more balanced and youthful facial appearance, adding back volume to the lips can be helpful.
We have several different options for lip augmentation, including injections of dermal fillers and surgical enhancement of the lips. Lately, there’s been some attention being given to another option, known as the “lip flip.” What’s a lip flip, and how does it compare with other options for enhancing the lips?
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip uses botox to create the appearance of a fuller lip. To achieve this, the injections are performed above the upper lip, most commonly above the cupid’s bow (the small dip right in the center of the upper lip) and around the corners of the mouth.
These areas contain muscles that normally pull upward on the upper lip and cause it to flatten. When the muscles are relaxed, the upper lip sags downward just a bit. This causes the top part of the lip to puff outward, creating the appearance of a fuller upper lip.
How does a lip flip compare with other options?
Another nonsurgical option for lip enhancement is fillers. These are injected directly into the lip to add volume. Unlike with fillers, a lip flip doesn’t actually add any volume.
Both lip flips and fillers offer temporary results. The results of your lip flip will last for a few months, and will then gradually fade. Fillers generally last for about a year or a little longer. In both cases, if you enjoy your results, then you’ll need to get touch-up treatments periodically in order to maintain them. If you’re looking for a permanent solution, then surgical lip augmentation offers lasting results and won’t require maintenance treatments.
Lip flips may look and feel a bit more natural than fillers, because nothing has been added to the lip itself. At the same time, they can’t address any concerns with the bottom lip, and they also can’t address severe volume loss in the top lip. Those who have very thin lips generally find that a lip flip doesn’t provide the results that they’re looking for.
In addition, it’s possible to reverse dermal fillers if you don’t like the results, but you can’t reverse botox. With a lip flip, you’re committing to the treatment for about three to four months. With fillers, you can have an enzyme injected to dissolve the filler if you decide that you no longer want to have enhanced lips.
