Reverse the Effects of Aging with a Brow Lift Caniglia Facial Plastic Surgery

With the normal aging process, the eyebrows begin to settle, adding heaviness to the upper eyelids. At the same time, deep vertical wrinkles form between the brows, giving a person an “angry” look. A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is designed to elevate the brows to a more youthful position, reducing the appearance of heaviness and deep vertical wrinkles. At Caniglia Facial Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, Drs. Alex and Ron Caniglia focus on facial procedures only and offer this transformative technique to help you achieve a rejuvenated and refreshed look.

What Are the Benefits of a Forehead Lift in Scottsdale?

A forehead lift offers numerous advantages, making it a great choice for those looking to rejuvenate their facial appearance. This procedure effectively addresses sagging brows and deep wrinkles, providing a more youthful and alert look. Patients enjoy a significant enhancement in their overall facial harmony and expression. The benefits of our brow lift procedure include the following:

  • Elevated, youthful brow position
  • Reduction of deep vertical wrinkles between the brows
  • Smoother forehead skin
  • More alert and refreshed appearance
  • Enhanced facial symmetry
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem
  • Can be done at the same time as a traditional Facelift

What Can I Expect From the Brow Lift Procedure?

Most brow lift surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis at our clinic. Drs. Ron and Alex Caniglia prefer to use local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, also known as deep twilight sleep. This method ensures patients are pain-free during surgery and have no recollection of the procedure. Additionally, this type of anesthesia allows patients to feel more alert and refreshed afterward. A board-certified anesthesiologist is present at all times to monitor the patient's vitals before, during, and after surgery.

Approaches to Forehead Lift Surgery

Endoscopic Approach

This method utilizes six small incisions, each about 1 cm in length, hidden within the hairline.

Pretrichial Approach

For patients with very high frontal hairlines or those who want their hairline lowered, the pretrichial (just in front of the hairline) approach uses an incision hidden at the frontal hairline. This approach can sometimes be combined with the endoscopic method.

Coronal Approach

This is an older, rarely utilized technique involving an incision placed back in the hairline from ear to ear. The major downside of this method is that it moves the frontal hairline back about an inch, giving the patient a taller forehead.

Additional Approaches

Other techniques rarely used today include the mid-forehead lift and the direct brow lift.

How the Endoscopic Brow Lift is Performed

  • Six 1-cm incisions are hidden within the hairline.
  • The skin of the forehead is elevated away from the bone down to the supraorbital rim (eye socket).
  • An endoscope, a small scope attached to a TV monitor, is used to aid the procedure.
  • The muscles and periosteum (the clear fibrous lining that attaches the brows to the bone) are released. This is the most important part of the forehead lift, as proper release is necessary for the brows to elevate.
  • A laser is used to release these muscles and the periosteum, ensuring precision and resulting in minimal bleeding and postoperative bruising.
  • The brows are elevated to their new, more youthful position.
  • The elevated brows are fixated internally, under the scalp, with dissolvable sutures and small dissolvable fixation device.
  • All incisions in the hairline are closed.
  • A light gauze pressure wrap is placed on the forehead.
  • The patient is moved to the recovery room.

What is Recovery Like After a Brow Lift in Scottsdale?

Patients can return home on the day of their brow lift surgery. Patients return to the office the next day to have their gauze dressing removed. No further dressings or drains are needed. Patients are allowed to shampoo their hair the day after surgery, and all sutures are removed on day seven. Most patients can return to work after one week. However, if more bruising occurs than average, an additional recovery time of a day or two may be needed. Patients are advised to refrain from heavy, strenuous activity and exercise for two weeks after the forehead lift.
