Dr. Alex and Ron Caniglia perform all chin implant procedures under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, also known as deep twilight sleep. This anesthesia method allows patients to be free of discomfort and have no memory of the surgery while also feeling alert and refreshed afterward. Incision Locations

The incision can be placed inside the mouth or lower lip or hidden within the crease underneath the chin (submental crease). The submental crease incision is often preferred for precise placement and reduced risk of injury to the mental nerve, the key nerve which provides sensation to the lower lip area.

Implant Shape

The shape of the chin implant is determined based on individual needs. It can be conventional, extended anatomical, chin-pre-jowl, or pre-jowl.

Procedure

Local and intravenous sedation are administered.
An incision is made in the submental crease.
The lining overlying the chin bone is elevated, and a pocket large enough for the implant is created.
The permanent implant is soaked in antibiotic solution before being placed within the pocket over the chin bone.
The implant is secured internally with sutures, and the incision is then closed.

Recovery After the Procedure
